Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçük sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine destelanmasıyla oluşan kısaca polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit ast birimi çitndırır). Anayasa ayrım peptitlerin kısaca, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, öbür amino asite daima, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle destelanır. Polipeptid konstrüksiyonsına hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlerin her biri konstrüksiyonya peptid destelarıyla destelanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir deniz çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıya C ucu adı verilir.
